What is AS/NZS 3760:2022?
AS/NZS 3760:2022 is the joint Australian and New Zealand standard for the "In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and RCDs".It provides the mandatory framework and guidelines for the routine visual inspection, electrical testing, and tagging of portable electrical appliances to ensure workplace safety.Compliance with this standard is a key method for businesses and Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) to meet their legal obligations under Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and electrical safety legislation in both Australia and New Zealand.

How often you should Test and Tag?
Testing intervals vary depending on your industry and the environment in which the equipment is used. The AS/NZS 3760:2022 standard recommends the following minimum frequencies:Every 3 Months: Construction, building, and demolition sites.Every 6 Months: Factories, production lines, and warehouses.Every 12 Months: Environments where cords are prone to flexing or abuse.Every 5 Years: Equipment in non-hostile environments.

1. Comprehensive Visual Inspection: We conduct rigorous visual safety inspections on all electrical leads, plugs, and connections. We ensure cords are firmly anchored, terminals are clean and free of pitting, and components show no signs of heat damage or melting. By meticulously checking the entire length of every lead for cuts, cracks, or breaks, we complete the critical visual assessment that represents 80% of the entire testing process.
2. Technical Diagnostics:Earth Continuity Test: Checks if Class I (earthed) appliances safely connect external metal to the earth wire. Resistance must not exceed 1 ohm.Insulation Resistance Test: Finds hidden damage or cracks in cords and components to prevent shocks, especially around water. Tested at 500V (or 250V for surge protectors) between live wires and earth. Resistance must be at least 1M ohm.Polarity Test: Checks extension leads and power boards for correct wiring. Ensures Active, Neutral, and Earth wires are connected to the right terminals.Current Leakage Test: Verifies that no electrical current is escaping from the appliance. Current entering must perfectly match current leaving. Mandatory for appliances that must be switched on to be tested.
3. Certification & Compliance Tagging: Following every successful inspection, we apply a durable safety tag to the plug end of the appliance lead. This tag clearly displays the exact test date, the scheduled retest date, and the identity of the technician or company responsible for the inspection.
